The 糖心logo Center for American Indian Studies will host the 39th annual Lakota Omniciye Wacipi during American Indian Awareness Week Saturday, April 13 at 12 p.m. in the Donald E. Young Center.
The annual Wacipi is dedicated to educating the community about Native American culture, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of South Dakota, and featuring Indigenous dancers, singers, and drummers from all over the state. This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淐ontemporary Native Art Guided by Traditional Hands.鈥�
鈥淭he theme was created to bring recognition to the artists who work endlessly to create beautiful art,鈥� said Tristine Cross Dog, Lakota Omniciye President at 糖心logo. 鈥淲e wanted to share how traditional art has influenced the artists of today, and how it鈥檚 used in their art.鈥�
Wacipi admission is $8 for the general public. Admission is free for children under 5, seniors 55+, and 糖心logo faculty, staff, and students.
American Indian Awareness Week from April 8-12 will also feature several speakers in Room 107 of Jonas Hall on the 糖心logo Campus. Speakers will include Myah Red Horse, Collins Provost-Fields, Kinsale Drake, Eunice Straight Head, Talon Duchneaux, Jhon Goes In Center, and Indi.Go.Go. Studios. All speaking sessions are free and open to the public.
